DRILLING: DETERMINING THE SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
During the first phase of contact
between Eastern Water Development and the commercial client, a determination is
made as to the requirements ( meaning type, size and anticipated water demands )
of the well to be drilled.
A trained, E.W.D.
account representative assigned to the account, will function as a liason
between E.W.D. and the client to insure that all parties are informed and kept
abreast of developments on the project. Depending upon the scope of the project,
( drilling, pumping systems, water filtration and conditioning, testing, etc.) a
team of people trained in specific disciplines within the water industry, may be
assigned to this client. This team approach reflects Eastern's "one source for
all your water related needs" philosophy in conducting business.
Based upon the type of well the client is proposing, Eastern Water Development will work closely with the client's engineers or existing facilities manager in selecting, staking and permitting the site: with all state and local health and building codes being carefully adhered to. Further, E.W.D. will work with the client in scheduling the project around employee traffic and work periods.
DRILLING: PHASE II
Once this
initial phase of meeting has ended and the date for drilling has arrived, the
drilling rig sets up over the selected site and proceeds to set casing. Casing
is steel pipe, conforming to state drilling codes that must extend aprox. 1 foot
above ground and at least 5 feet into the bedrock; creating a sanitary seal that
minimizes the chance of surface water contamination from entering the well.
Once the casing has been set, actual drilling commences. A
drill bit is sent down the casing at the same time that water is being
introduced into the bore. This introduced water creates a "slurry" that will
carry the cuttings from the drilling up and out of the bore. Drilling will
continue until the original requirements of the well have been met or at a point
mutually agreed upon by both the customer and Eastern Water Development.Once the
drilling operation has been completed, a temporary well cap is fixed atop the
casing, the rig and its equipment are packed and the drilling rig leaves the
site.
MONITORING WELLS
Monitoring wells are
wells drilled at known or suspected hazardous waste sites, for the purpose of
collecting samples of water for testing. This testing reveals the extent of the
contamination and provides the basis for determining the site's possible
remediation. Eastern Water Development has been very successful in working with
many of the Northeast's better known, environmental engineering firms as an
extension of their services to their clients.
Working closely with the
engineers to develop and execute the exact type of monitor well designed, E.W.D.
has drilled in a variety of locations, including: tank farms for major oil
companies, locally owned gas stations and convenience stores, residential sites,
factories, to name but a few.
